Choosing the right pickup truck for the job helps maximize your productivity. Before you start your vehicle search, consider the types of cargo you carry or tow, whether you typically drive on poorly maintained roads or in harsh weather conditions and if your truck is for work or for personal use.

TOWING AND PAYLOAD

When you use your pickup truck to tow or haul, keep its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, or GVWR, in mind. This refers to the combined weight of the truck, driver, passengers and all cargo.

PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY

Choosing the best engine and transmission for your pickup truck depends on how you’ll be using it. Consider the following for the optimal balance of performance and efficiency.

SEATING

If you have to transport a crew to a jobsite or want to use your work vehicle to take your family out on the town, Ram trucks come in several cab sizes: Regular, Crew, Quad Cab® and Mega Cab®.

TRUCK CAB SIZE COMPARISON

Different types of truck cabs meet different needs. Generally, regular cab pickup trucks accommodate more payload, while four-door cabs offer a more passenger-oriented experience. A Regular Cab truck features two doors and one row of seating for up to three passengers. Four-door trucks like the Quad Cab®, Mega Cab® and Crew Cab feature two rows of seating for up to six passengers. Note that the Mega Cab comes with the most interior volume and passenger room compared to the other cab sizes.

Both have their benefits. In the United States, gasoline tends to be cheaper than diesel fuel and is often easier to find at fuel stations. Diesel fuel tends to yield better mileage, particularly when driving on highways.

If you’re towing something heavy such as a horse trailer, you’ll want to look for a Ram truck equipped with dual rear wheels. The Ram 3500 is available with dual rear wheels and, when equipped with the available High-Output 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine, can tow a maximum of up to 37,090 pounds with confidence.

The Crew Cab on a Ram truck is designed for transporting passengers in comfort. As a four-door pickup truck, it features two rows of seating for up to six passengers, with generous headroom and legroom.

The cab, or cabin, refers to the driving compartment of a truck and contains the vehicle controls and seating. Cabs can vary in size to accommodate as many as six passengers.

A Regular Cab, or standard-sized cab, features two doors and one row of seating for up to three passengers.
